Depending on the design and compounds used, lithium cells can produce voltages between 1.5 and 3.0 V, which is 2 times the voltage of a zinccarbon or alkaline battery. Lithium batteries are widely used in products such as portable consumer electronic devices.</p>
<p>Examples:<br />
<strong>Li-Mn (manganese dioxide)</strong><br />
This type is used in most consumer grade batteries (~ 80% of the lithium batteries), because it is made of inexpensive materials. It is suitable for low-drain, long-life, low-cost applications due to its high energy density per both mass and volume.</p>
<p><strong>Li-ion (lithium ion battery)</strong> (rechargeable)<br />
Lithium ion batteries are commonly used in rechargeable consumer electronics, due to their excellent energy-to-weight ratios, the lack of a memory effect when recharged, and their slow loss of charge when not in use. </p>
